Yes — monthly is nearly three times yearly. That gap is the honest price of an exit: $7 is what Spool costs when you plan to stay, $20 is what it costs to keep the freedom to leave after one month. Both numbers are on this page because hiding one behind a toggle is how people end up surprised by their own invoice.

Every feature Spool ships lands in this plan. There is no higher tier for it to land in instead.
Deliberately absent from that list: transcripts, captions, and cutting by deleting words. We do not run a speech model in production, so a transcript is not something we can hand you today. It needs a funded model with word-level timestamps, and we would rather ship it late than ship one that guesses. If transcript-driven editing is what you are shopping for this month, Tella is good at it and leads with it — buy that instead, and come back when ours is real.
Storage is not unlimited
Nothing is metered today. No account has a storage cap, nothing counts your bytes, and no upload has ever been turned away for taking up room. We are also not going to print the word “unlimited”, because a disk is a real object and one day somebody’s library will be larger than ours.
So here is the term, in the plan and not in a footnote: we reserve the right to set a fair-use storage limit, and if we ever do, it starts at 100 GB per paying seat, pooled across your workspace. On your own that is 100 GB. A team of five shares 500 GB between them, however they like — the allowance grows with what you pay, and it is never divided up per person. We would rather name the figure than write “reasonable use”, which is a number somebody else picks later, in a mood, about you.
Two things we bind ourselves to, because a reserved right without them is exactly the move Spool exists to invert. First, no limit applies to you before we have told you it does — you hear it from us, with time to do something about it, never from an upload that suddenly fails. Second, whatever ever happens to your ability to add more, everything you have already shared keeps playing. That one is not a new promise: it is the same guarantee the end of a trial and the end of a subscription already keep, and it is written into the code that decides both.
The Viewer Guarantee
Viewers are free, unlimited, and forever.
Someone who watches a Spool, leaves a comment, or drops a reaction will never appear on your invoice, never need a license, and can never be converted into a paid seat — not by us, not by our billing system, not by a future pricing change. You pay for the people who record. Nobody pays to watch.
We are this explicit because the alternative is well documented: teams on other tools have opened an invoice and found people who only ever pressed play turned into paid seats after a billing change. A promise that lives only on a marketing page can be edited on a marketing page, so this one is written to go into the terms of service word for word. There is no terms page to link you to yet — Spool has no accounts and nothing to sign — so until there is, hold us to this page.
Seven days, and an honest ending
The trial is the whole product, and the end of it does not take anything away from the people you already sent links to.
Days 1 to 7: the whole product
Seven days from the day the account is made, with every feature switched on. No watermark, no recording cap, no length limit, and nothing labeled “available on a higher plan” — because there is no higher plan.
Day 8, if you decide against it
Recording locks. Everything you already shared keeps playing. The links you sent to other people are not ours to switch off to make a point — holding an audience hostage to force an upgrade is the specific move Spool exists to invert.
What you take with you, and what we still owe you
Any recording exports as a real MP4 or GIF, rendered from the edited timeline — the cut people watched, not the raw take — so the recoverable asset is a download away whenever you want it. Every recording is encrypted at rest under its own key. And the end of a subscription locks exactly one thing, making new recordings: the links you already sent keep playing for the people you sent them to, because those links are not ours to switch off to make a point.
What we owe you and do not have yet is the other half of that: a public, licensed release of the server, so that running it yourself is a real option rather than a marketing word. Spool’s backend is one container and a data volume, which is why this is achievable rather than aspirational — but the repository is private and unlicensed today, which means nobody has been granted the right to run it, and until that changes we are not going to tell you that you can. When it ships, this section gets shorter.
Seven days, then you decide

Make an account with your email address — no password, no card — and the seven days start. Every feature above is switched on for all of them. Nothing is charged unless you pick a cadence yourself.
Whatever you decide on day eight, every link you have already sent keeps playing, free, for the people you sent it to. That is the Viewer Guarantee, and it is the one thing on this page that does not depend on you paying us.
The awkward questions
Will there be a free plan after the trial?
We have not decided, and we would rather print that than imply an answer. One thing is settled either way, and it is the one that costs us money: viewers stay free. This answer used to promise the same about self-hosting; it cannot, until there is a license.
What counts as a user?
Someone who records or edits. Watching, commenting and reacting are not recording — which is the entire point of the Viewer Guarantee.
What about teams — SSO, admin, pooled billing?
Priced later, as seats of the same plan. Not as features you have to climb a tier to reach.
Do my viewers need an account?
No. A share link plays for anyone who has it — no login, no app, no cost.
