Spool records
from your desktop.
The app is where recordings are made — a camera bubble that floats over every other app, native full-screen capture, and your share link on the clipboard before you stop talking. Everything after that happens in a browser, on any system: watching, comments, the editor, your library.
You will need an account to pair the app with. Make one now — an email address, no password.
Heads up: this build isn't notarized yet, so macOS will likely say “Spool is damaged and can't be opened.” It isn't — move it to Applications, then in Terminal run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Spool.app and launch it again.
Three steps, about a minute
Open the download, drag to Applications
Double-click the .dmg and drag Spool into your Applications folder, then launch it from there.
Allow Screen Recording
On the first take macOS asks once, in System Settings › Privacy & Security. Microphone and Camera are asked for only if you turn the mic or the camera bubble on.
Connect your account
Open your account, choose “Connect the Spool app”, and paste the code into the app's Settings tab. Everything you record then lands in your library, ready to edit and share from any browser.
Three things a tab never did well
These are the reasons capture moved out of the browser and into a real window. Everything after the recording — library, editor, share links, the viewers-free-forever terms — is unchanged and needs nothing installed.
A camera bubble that lives over every app
A real always-on-top window, not a box inside a browser tab. Drag it anywhere — over Figma, over your terminal, over a full-screen Space — and it shows up right there in the recording.
Your whole screen, captured natively
The OS records the display directly, so there is no tab picker to fumble and no browser chrome in the frame. A 3-2-1 countdown, an on-screen rail to stop, and optional click and keystroke overlays while you talk.
The link is copied before you stop
It is reserved and on your clipboard the moment you start, and the bytes stream up while you are still talking. Lose Wi-Fi mid-sentence and the take waits on your machine — the upload resumes by itself, even after a relaunch.
Windows and Linux can’t record yet
Capture is the one part of Spool that needs a build for your machine. The rest of the product — the library, the editor, share pages, comments, exports — is a website, and it has never cared what you are running.
The desktop app installs on macOS 12 Monterey or later · Apple silicon & Intel, and it is where every Spool recording starts.
There is no Spool recorder for Windows yet, and nothing on this page is going to pretend otherwise. You can still make an account, import a video you already have, cut it in the editor and share it — and the day a Windows build exists, this page hands it to you with your account untouched.
There is no Spool recorder for Linux yet, and nothing on this page is going to pretend otherwise. You can still make an account, import a video you already have, cut it in the editor and share it — and the day a Linux build exists, this page hands it to you with your account untouched.
Desktop builds on this Spool today: macOS. Everywhere else, an account and import are the whole product minus the capture.
